Trick or Treat!!!

Here are some pics from Katy's first Halloween. We hung out at the house and passed out candy, but we did take Katy trick or treating to our friends' house a few doors down. Unfortunately, her kitty costume was soooo thick and warm and it was 80 degrees that day. So instead of putting her in furry pants with large kitty paws on them we just put her in white tights...it still worked out. I was a ballerina (it was the only costume I already had!! haha) and Andrew and Blake didn't dress up (those bums) but Andrew did say that he was "wolverine" (notice the hair). Anyway, we had a good time just hanging out with fam and passing out candy to the kids in the neighborhood.

Solids!!!

Also, last week we started Katy on rice cereal, because she had been acting soo hungry and actually was adding a full feeding for a couple of days. She's been doing ok with it so far but I think she realizes the rice cereal is pretty gross tasting. We're going to try some oatmeal or barley and veggies as soon as I can get to the store to get some. Here is a pic of her after her first solid meal..

One other recent development is that Katy is babbling mamama all day long. I know she doesn't know what she is saying but I still like it...Andrew keeps trying to get her to say dada but it is just not happening.

Family!!

So I was going to first post a few pics of my fam and then Katy pics, however, my computer is having a hard time dragging photos, so I guess we'll start with Katy updates. A little over 2 weeks ago, Katy went in for her 4 month check up and shots. Here are her stats:

Height: 25 1/2 in = 75th-90th percentile
Weight: 15 lbs. = 75th-90th percentile
Head: 43 cm. = 90th-95th percentile

Katy is the love of our lives and every day is so much fun with her in our home. She is truly a joy and we lover her sooo much.

Katy:

- Sleeps 10 straight hours at night and takes two 2 hr. naps during the day, she is such a good girl
- Loves to roll over onto her stomach and then complain because she hates tummy time
- Likes to do anything outside and is fascinated by the trees, sun, flowers, etc.
- Refuses to take her morning nap during church which makes for a long Sunday
-Loves to dance around the room to loud music with mommy or daddy and thinks mommy dancing for her is funny
- Sings lots of songs with mommy including "Peas Porridge Hot" and "Wheels on the Bus"
- Will read for literally an hour at a time, she loves to look at books (which the teacher in me is excited about)
- Enjoys being thrown up in the air
- Splashes violently in the tub during her baths
- Is not ticklish at all, and actually is quite serious, at least for mommy. Of course daddy can get her to laugh easily.
- Has started to be interested in our food that we're eating and attempts to drink water from a cup. Once she realizes that it's cold, she makes a sour face and spits out the water.

We love our baby girl!!!

This is what her large smiles look like most of the time - she closes her eyes, arches her back, sticks her tongue out, and puts her hands up to her ears

Happy girl!!

I love this face

Andrew and Blake recently planted grass in our backyard and so we went outside to hang out and enjoy the new yard and wonderful fall weather.

Katy did this on her own. I put the book by her feet and she grabbed both ends of it and pulled it closer to her face so she could see it better...my little genius haha.

Last weekend my family, the Rosa's came for a 5 day visit. We had a wonderful time together, and our activities included going to Hillridge Farms, carving pumpkins, painting Katy's room, hanging out in downtown Wake Forest, and just spending a lot of good time talking and playing Farkle (or should I say Fadoogle)!!

Catch up time!!

So I realize it has been 2 MONTHS since I last blogged and I apoligize to my family for that. They keep telling me to post more pics of Katy girl. In my defense, I didn't have a camera for a few weeks because mine broke. Anyway, in this entry, I'll play a little catch up and fill everyone in on what's been going on with us in the last month. Soo..

A month ago, we went in for Katy's 2 month immunizations, however, while we were there the doctor let us know that Katy had an ear infection, so we decided to hold off on having her immunizations until the next week. We started giving her the wonderful pink medicine... At our doctor's visit, we learned that Katy's stats were:
Weight: 10 lbs. 14 oz 50th percentile
Height: 23 1/2 inches 90th percentile
I guess she WAS tall and thin like her dad.
3 weeks ago we went in for Katy's immunizations and she had to have 3 shots. She was sleeping when they gave them to her, woke up screaming while they quickly stuck her, and then went right back to sleep. She handled them like a champ. Also, the doc said her ear was looking better. Here are some pics of her 3 weeks ago.

About 2 1/2 weeks ago, Katy starting screaming while eating again like she did during her first ear infection. So we took her into the doctor, and she said her ears looked clear. It continued for a few more days, so we took her in again this time to a different doctor, and she said her ears had a little fluid but that she had some weird sore throat. She gave us medicine for the sore throat. The screaming continued for the next week. Here are some pics from 2 weeks ago.

At this point Katy had been screaming bloody murder while eating for about 20ish days, and I was going insane, so I took her in again to the doctor, and this time, she had a full ear infection. We started her on the augmented amoxicilin. Apparently it tastes terrible, because Katy's face cringes up so bad when we give it to her. Poor girl!! Also, when they weighed her at this visit, she weighed a whopping 13 lbs. She gained basically 2 lbs. in about 2 1/2 weeks, crazy huh?
Now...
She's been on the meds for a week and is eating a lot better, but not 100%. We'll see what happens. I think tubes are in her future. Katy also rolled over from tummy to back for the first time two days ago, on accident of course!!! Here are some pictures that I took today. (Ignore the dates on the pics, I got a new camera and didn't change the date before I was shooting away!)

We sure love our little (or should I say not-so-little) girl!! Haha!!

Blessing the babe...

This past Sunday we blessed Katy B. We were very lucky to have both the Larsons and the Rosas together again for a little family reunion. Katy's blessing went really well, though she lost her little white shoes right before the blessing and lost her best friend paci during the blessing. I'd also like to thank Rebecca for writing down her blessing, something that I failed to think about until the blessing had already begun!!

It was so much fun to have some of our family here for the special occasion. We miss our family so much already!! Anyway, here are a few (or maybe a little more than a few) pics from this past weekend: (sorry about the red eyes, forgot to put camera on red eye reduction)

I love this curious little face!

One Month!!

Yesterday was Katy's Monthday!! It's hard to believe that she is already one month old, and she is growing so fast. She's not exactly the skinny little bird she was when we brought her home anymore, it's so sad how big she's grown already. When we got home from the hospital she was 7 lbs. 2 oz. and now she's a whopping 8 lbs. 13 oz.!! Ever since she figured the eating thing out, she's been all about it. She has developed a lovely double chin, and chubby cheeks and thighs. We love our little Katy B!!!
Some of her favorite things to do are:
  • EAT every 3-4 hours
  • Take a warm bath and have her hair washed with shampoo - she also loves to have her head put under the faucet to rinse off the shampoo!
  • Scream bloody murder when she's tired and ready to be put down for her nap
  • Read stories and stare at the pictures
  • Burp as loud as an adult and spit up on her clothes, our clothes, the couch, bed, etc.
  • Dance around the living room with her daddy while listening to Jack Johnson radio
  • Suck vigorously on her best friend... paci
  • Give big kisses to mommy and daddy
  • Stare at the blue birdie on her mobile in her swing (she really goes out of her way to do this, she tilts her head so far back to see it, it looks painful)

And here are some of the most recent pictures we've taken: (The fuzzy ones are from Andrew's iphone, but we still think they're cute : )

The above pics were both Monthday pics
Our little family
She'll grow into the hat...

Nakee picture after bathtime

She la, la, loves her paci

Katy trying to eat the sheet after I stole her best friend paci

All wet!!

Andrew took both of these on his Iphone trying to make her look as gross and huge as possible by emphasizing her double chin and large cheks. He was pretty successful, she looks about like a blimp!!

"I'm going to eat you!!"

We love our Katy B. and are so excited for all of her grandparents and aunt Emily and Christina to come out next weekend for her blessing!!

Labor Story

Katy Briet Larson was born on Wednesday, May 27 at 4:27 p.m. Here is how she made it here... On Tuesday, May 26, Andrew and I arrived at the hospital to start the induction (I was 4 days overdue, and my insurance was changing at the end of May, so I needed to be induced so that my wonderful COBRA health insurance from being a teacher covered the labor and hospital stay.) Around 10:00 p.m. I got a folley catheter to get me a little more dilated so that they would be able to start the pitocin first thing in the morning. That night we slept pretty well (about as well as you can sleep with nurses poking and prodding you all night.)

Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. they started pumping that wonderful pitocin through me. By 9 I was having contractions about 2 to 2 1/2 minutes apart that were lasting from 1 to 1 1/2 minutes... I was not getting much of a break, but at this point, the contractions were no big deal. Well that didn't last long...by about 11 the contractions were pretty stinkin' intense and I was checked at 11:30 and was at a 7. I immediately asked for my epidural, which unfortunately took an hour and fifteen minutes to get to me. By 12:45 I was at an 8 and was sooo glad when the epidural arrived. After the epidural was given, I felt pretty good for about 10 minutes, and then it started to wear off and I was feeling some intense contractions again. So the nurse upped my dose of the epidural.

At about 1:30 the epidural was finally working and the doctor came in. I was at a 9, so he broke my water. Two hours later it was time to push, I pushed for exactly one hour, and Katy was here. She came out with not a peep, I kept asking the doctor, "Is she ok?" and he assured me that she was. Katy was 7 lbs. 13 oz. and 20 inches long. All in all, Andrew and I were very pleased with how well the labor went, and we are so grateful that Katy is happy (well, some of the time, haha) and healthy. Here are a few of our fav pics from the last 2 1/2 weeks:

The Waiting Game

So at this point I'm 40 weeks and 4 days along and no baby girl Larson!! I'm showing absolutely nnnooooo signs of labor and having nnnooo contractions. As you can see, my pregnancy ticker is a little confused as it was at 0 days left, and now it's starting to count up again, but it is one day off. The latest news is that my mommy is here from Chicago (yay) and that this little girl is posterior, head down, but facing the total wrong way unfortunately, which in my opinion is why she hasn't dropped and partly why I'm overdue. I hope and pray they will be able to turn her around or that by some miracle she will turn during labor as posterior babies can potentially cause some problems.
She's just chillin in there, loving up her life. Anyway, I have a doctors appointment first thing tomorrow morning and depending on how dilated I am, they will start a folley catheter on me tomorrow night, I'll stay in the hospital that night, and then first thing Wednesday morning they'll start pumping me full of pitocin to get my uterus to work!! If I'm already pretty dilated tomorrow morning, they'll forgoe the folley catheter Tuesday night and just start inducing Wednesday morning. Anyway, I'm glad to know that there is an end in sight and that end is just two days away! We are sooo excited for this day to finally come and to meet baby girl Larson!!! Here are my last prego pics at 40 weeks, 3 days...
